Tarrawatta Trio

Celia Craigoboe

Thomas Marlin - cello

Michael Ierace - piano

The name Tarrawatta originates from Eden Valley in the Barossa, referencing both the traditional owners and first pioneers on the land where the Trio first performed at Collingrove Homestead in Angaston, using its historic 1913 Weber Baby Grand piano. This was by permission of the National Trust of South Australia, for whom Celia was Resident Artist 2020-24. Tarrawatta Trio were honoured to receive sponsorship from the Angas family at Hutton Vale Farm, with wine from grapes grown on the land originally part of Collingrove.

Tarrawatta was one of the very first groups to play in the stunning new North Adelaide Baroque Hall, presenting Exclusive Musical Soiree exclusive concerts. Committeed to education, Tarrawatta has worked with students at Brighton Secondary School’s Specialist Music Department, coaching young musicians and performing at Brighton Performing Arts Centre. They performed for VIP guests at Government House at the invitation of Her Excellency The Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, and have been in residence in Mount Gambier, supported by Arts South Australia (now Create SA) in a community residency: Songs without Words. Through Celia’s 2024 Creative Arts Fellowship at National Library of Australia, the Trio also has a focus on the music and uncovering the little known inner life, of Dr. Miriam Hyde AO, OBE.

The three artists of Tarrawatta have extensive biographies and awards and are all based in Australia’s UNESCO City of Music. Limelight Magazine awarded Tarrawatta Trio’s debut at North Adelaide Baroque Hall five stars, reporting:

“Here was chamber music playing at its best; it was persuasive and powerful, delivered with dynamic precision and appropriately driven and cantabile in turn. Marlin really ‘sang’ in the central sun filled adagio, whilst Ierace played throughout with dynamic precision… Celia Craig’s usual seamless eloquence… so intimate and personal that listening was like eavesdropping on musicians playing for themselves…” Brett Allen-Bayes, Limelight
