Tim Freedman's Chamber Eight // UKARIA

  • UKARIA Cultural Centre 119 Williams Road Mount Barker Summit, South Australia, 5251 Australia (map)

Tim Freedman joins forces with a new chamber ensemble to perform the world premiere of Tim Freedman’s Chamber Eight directed by Daniel Denholm.

After The Whitlams’ sold-out weekend with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in April, Freedman returns to South Australia with a more intimate line up, rediscovering the source material of the orchestral arrangements: the gorgeous chamber pieces commissioned for the Australian Chamber Orchestra in 2003 by Peter  Sculthorpe, Brett Dean and Daniel Denholm.

The concert will also feature refined versions of the large ensemble scores recently composed for the concert hall by Jamie Messenger and James Ledger. With the addition of two new UKARIA-commissioned arrangements by Denholm, this will be a new canvas for the stories and songs that have become so beloved by Whitlams fans.

Local string luminaries Julian Ferraretto, Emily Tulloch, Stephen King and Thomas Marlin will be joined by violin heroine Véronique Serret, flute and clarinet specialist Adam Page, and Sydney’s double bass supremo Jonathan Zwartz.

These concerts are generously supported by the Lang Family Foundation.
