Selby & Friends closes its 20th anniversary season highlighting one of S&F’s most important commitments – to foster the talents of the next generations of Australia’s artists. Two young newcomers, violinist Louise Turnbull and violist Ariel Postmus, join superb violinist Kristian Winther, dynamic cellist Miles Mullin-Chivers, and Kathryn Selby in three wonderful piano quintets by Mozart, Milhaud, and Dvořák.
The program demonstrates an uncanny symmetry in its revelation of styles, from the timelessness of Mozart’s early Piano Concerto No. 14 in a brilliant original chamber music version, to the jazz-infused quintet version of “The Creation of the World” by Darius Milhaud, and finally the enduring melodies and infectious rhythms of Dvořák’s Piano Quintet No. 2.
Concert Program:
W.A. Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 14 in E-flat major, K. 449 (arr. Lachner for Piano and String Quartet (1784)
Darius Milhaud: La Creation du Monde, Op. 81a (1922 - 23)
Antonín Dvořák: Piano Quintet No. 2 in A major, Op. 81 (1887)
