Bush, Borscht & Bonn // Selby & Friends

  • Concordia College Chapel 45 Cheltenham Street Highgate, SA, 5063 Australia (map)

Australian Ross Edwards' piano trio gem opens this program with two of pianist Kathryn Selby’s long-time friends, violinist Susie Park and cellist Julian Smiles. Anton Arensky’s second Piano Trio, stormy and passionate, is an audience favourite.. Capping off this terrific concert is Beethoven's own arrangement for piano trio of his stunning Septet.

Listening to Beethoven’s arrangement of his famous Septet, one gets a real sense of what it must have been like to desperately want to play something at home you had only heard played by many artists publicly. The piano trio was – and still is - a seminal ensemble for sharing in the home and became a vital source of inspiration for composers across the globe.

Concert Program:

Ross Edwards: Piano Trio for Violin, Cello and Piano (1998)

Anton Arensky: Piano Trio No.2 in F minor, Op.73 (1905)

Ludwig van Beethoven: Trio for Violin, Cello and Piano in E-flat major, Op. 38 (1799/1800)
