Easter is a time for both reflection on the suffering of the Passion story and for joy at the renewal of life. Hear the first of Francois Couperin’s sublime Lecons de Tenebrae written for Holy Week, and widely regarded as the pinnacle of French Baroque vocal writing, alongside Clerambault’s gorgeous ‘Hymne Des Anges’ both featuring the sweet and soaring soprano voice of Kate MacFarlane. As well, arias and cantatas from JS Bach and Johann Pachelbel with violin obbligato – the first a moment of divine repose from the Easter Oratorio, and the second a rarely heard uplifting gem. A selection of baroque masterpieces to bring solace and jubilation.
