Our Director Elizabeth McCall shares her insights about all things chamber music
-
Last night, I was lucky enough to see Harry Connick Junior in concert at the Festival Theatre – it was a conversation between musicians, informed by the audience’s reaction. It was a big room but it felt like Harry was present with us, connecting in conversation and music, not just presenting a show. He spoke about how he doesn’t plan what to say – that every show is unique in that respect. And this is also one of the things I love about chamber music – that each performance is unique. That the audience is part of the intimacy of that musical conversation.I’d bought the tickets as a gift to my husband for Father’s Day – he said it was the best Father’s Day gift ever. As we approach the season of gift-giving, I encourage you to think about buying concert tickets as gifts for family. Have a look through our concert diary and if your favourite ensemble hasn’t yet shared their program, make your own gift note with a promise to attend their concert together!
