Various People Inc is passionate about creating music theatre and music performances that tell stories for people who sometimes don’t have a voice to speak for themselves. They have created work for a number of festivals and venues including the Adelaide Festival of Arts and the Cabaret, Fringe and Come Out festivals.
Various People started 2018 with a January concert presented in association with Carrick Hill as part of the Adelaide Festival Centre French Festival.
In June they set up the “P’opera Pod” in Adelaide Arcade and Rundle Mall. Over the course of several days, stories and anecdotes were collected from visitors and inhabitants of Rundle Mall. Themes and freshly written text was incorporated into well-known operatic arias and ensembles in front of the passing audience and performed at the end of the day. This project began with seed-funding from the Arts South Australia Artspitch program.
La Virtuosissima Cantatrice, a Baroque cabaret, was reworked for the Cabaret Fringe Festival in June/July. To round off its year Various People presented Winter Warmers within the cosy ambience of La Boheme in Grote Street.
